Sometimes we’ll use food coloring to color our base (uncooked rice..)
For an added bonus, include a sensory bin with a small amount of warm water and bubbles.
Add their favorite squishy bath toys for an easy activity.
Little hands will enjoy exploring and have extra fun with this simple play setup.
Adult supervision is always advised.
A safe environment is a must.
Toddlers have short attention spans so a simple sensory setup is filled with so many benefits (stimulates the senses, learning is improved..) and takes up a good chunk of time.

We love putting together a simple homemade sensory bottle.
I’ll use a hot glue gun (adult-use only) to glue the top to the bottle.
This allows for the bottle to be extra shut.
It’s the simple things, right?
Sensory bottles are a great activity for little kids and for older kids.
It allows littles to explore while everything is contained.

Entertaining a toddler indoors is so much fun!
You can set up so many fun ideas by incorporating a bit of open ended play.
For example, do you have a blue towel?
This can be a pretend ocean.
Then, add all of their ocean toy figures to it and pretend the sea animals are swimming in the ocean!
If you are looking for more open ended toys, here are some ideas of ones we own and truly love:

Play is a wonderful way to help a baby or toddler's brain develop. Play might be a game, talking or singing to actively engage your child's brain. "Peek-a-boo" and holding toys out to watch help a baby's brain develop. Talk to your baby about what you are doing.
Mazes are a big hit with kids! Mazes are an incredibly clever way to boost your kid's brain while having fun. Mazes encourage logical reasoning, scanning and helps improve fine motor skills as they draw the solution over the winding pathways.
Almost 40 percent of the 2,000 moms and dads polled thought they had the best time when their child hit age 5 — in part because they “started to communicate properly” and had developed “a good sense of humor.” On the flip side, however, is the age range the parents polled rated the most difficult: between 10 and 12.
Sing together. Children enjoy exploring and experimenting with language and it helps them to learn new words and their meanings and also to listen to the sounds that make those words. ...
Sensory play is any activity that stimulates our senses – touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. It helps children interact with and make sense of the world that surrounds them.
At 6 months, a child may be content playing by themselves for 5 minutes. At 12 months, they can handle about 15 minutes of solo play. At 18 months, they might play alone for 15 to 20 minutes. At 2 years, they should last around 30 minutes.
Two-year-olds are in a developmental stage Montessori experts refer to as the “sensitive period for order.” Having too many toys to choose from can overwhelm your two-year-old and make it harder for them to focus. Consider incorporating toy rotation into your routine.
Dress-up. Playing dress-up develops imagination, creative thinking, and even impulse control, which is vital as your child gets older. Parent tip: Encourage your child to try on clothes you've put aside for dress-up during their next play date and watch their imagination really take off.
