How To Make Juicy Denver Steaks
The process of cooking steaks doesn't have to be complicated.
Step One: Lay the steak cuts on a baking sheet and season.
Step Two: Before putting the steaks on the grill, let them come to room temperature. Preheat the grill during this time.
Step Three: Add the steaks to the hot preheated grill and cook to your liking of doneness. It helps to check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer.
Remove the steaks and let them rest before slicing and serving.
Top Tip
Letting a steak come to room temperature before grilling or searing it is a simple tip for keeping the juices inside the steak and releasing them during the cooking process. Cooking cold steaks can result in tougher steaks that are also dried out.
Variations
Use different seasonings - The great thing about cooking a steak with a good amount of marbling is that you can vary the types of seasoning used. Use fresh herbs, soy sauce, or even a simple marinade to add rich flavor to this thick Denver steak. Garlic powder is also my best friend when it comes to an excellent choice of flavor. Some people also like to use Worcestershire sauce or balsamic vinegar on this tender cut of steak.
Substitutions
Different cut - While this recipe was created using a Denver cut steak you can sub in another type of steak like filet mignon.
Common Questions
What is another name for a Denver steak?
Since Denver steak isn't the "technical term" for this cut of beef, you'll likely also know it by other names like underblade steak or even bottom chuck steak. These are the favorite cuts of steak fans all over the world. It is cut from below the shoulder blade bone.
What are the best sides to serve with steak?
Side dishes are aplenty when it comes to pairing them with steak. Green beans, french fries, baked sweet potato or sweet potato fries, or even a simple side salad are always great options.
This Denver steak cut also pairs really well with steamed or fresh veggies, too.
What is the best way to cook this beef cut?
While I love cooking this on the grill, you can cook this in a hot pan, in a cast iron skillet, or give it a perfect sear on the flat iron. The biggest thing to remember when it comes to cooking steak is that a hot grill or hot pan is necessary for giving it that reverse sear method or grill marks.
Should I let the steak rest after cooking it?
Yes, 100%. While it might be extremely hard to do, it's important to let the steak rest once it is cooked. This allows the juices that are in the steak to release slowly back into the rest of the meat. This also gives the steak time to not be overly hot, allowing some of the best flavors to come through with each bite.
What is the best way to use leftover steak?
There are so many options when it comes to using leftover steak. You can slice it up and store it in freezer bags to enjoy later, or reheat it and eat it just like it is again. (Be careful when reheating, as this is the most common method that people use to overcook their steaks).
If you don't want to enjoy this steak in the same method, you can slice it thin and make a killer good steak sandwich or pair it with some pasta for a unique dish.
