Critics Consensus

The Week Of suggests promise in further collaborations between Sandler and Robert Smigel, but its shopworn premise and listless execution aren't enough to recommend it.

The Week Of | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Glenn Kenny New York Times How bad could it be? Well, as the popular "Mad Men" meme goes, it's "Not great, Bob!" Aug 3, 2018 Full Review The Week Of | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Rafer Guzman Newsday There's no way audiences would pay to see The Week Of at a theater. Even streaming it might feel like a rip-off. Rated: 0.5/4 May 1, 2018 Full Review The Week Of | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Even with helpful title cards telling us it's "MONDAY," "TUESDAY," etc., etc., this is a week that feels 10 days long. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 27, 2018 Full Review The Week Of | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Q.V. Hough Vague Visages Like an aging fighter that steps into the ring on short notice, Robert Smigel's The Week Of is overweight, unfocused and hungry for a paycheck. Feb 20, 2022 Full Review The Week Of | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Kiko Vega Espinof 'The Week Of' is a hilarious and touching story about the fear of disappointment, stubbornness and the most heartfelt farewells of middle / lower class parents that a film with an explicit tribute to 'Footloose' may have. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Mar 4, 2019 Full Review The Week Of | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Thom Denson One Room With A View It's not so much a bad film, just an immensely tepid one with phoned-in performances, sadly an increasingly common occurrence for the leading pair. Rebecca B Not anything like the usual Adam Sandler/Happy Gilmore films. They are my normal go to comfort films to watch and I turned to this thinking it would be the same. I watched 25 minutes and hoped for the best. It took a lot out of me to watch the 25 minutes. It was dull and dragged the whole time before I finally switched it off. Its clearly not written by Adam Sandler just produced as it is boring, dull and monotone. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review compucombo Awful. I will never get the 8 hours it took to watch this Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Aaron G East coast bickering, joyless experience. OK to never see again. Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/24 Full Review Nikita P Adam Sandler delivers a great raunchy comedy but it makes you a little uncomfortable at times, mostly because of how serious the story actually is if we remove comedy. Chris Rock had a big role but less part in comedy. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/23 Full Review Sanad A The movie's ratings are surprisingly low despite being a great work of comedy. It beautifully depicts the imperfect perfection of a family, covering almost all aspects. The story follows a wealthy African American family meeting a middle class Jewish family, coming together after two members from each family get married.Surprisingly, it's better than many Happy Madison production movies. The casting is excellent, with Steve Buscemi as Charles and Adam Sandler as Kenny Lustig. As always, Adam excels at making his character hilarious.Adam Sandler's character is a great dad who does everything for his kids. Chris Rock plays the rich and famous character of a heart surgeon in L.A.I loved this movie and believe it receives hate because it's real. It's perfect for a family comedy movie night and will keep you laughing.I recommend this movie to anyone looking for a hilarious story. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Aloysious D It started of with a little humour here and there and then towards the middle it got interesting. It depicts good values and the great American family heart-never say no to anyone. I enjoyed the cast, the roles, the entire roll over.
