I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that #1. Ads are rarely removed. #2 advertisers rarely ever return messages, email, or answer phone calls. #3 I really think there are people that put nice items in classifieds with no intention of sell the TheSamba.com :: Off Topic - View topic (4) item. #4 out of the 7 advertisers I tried to contact to purchase from, you would think at least one would be a scam that would return my message or call to take my money. #5 it’s crazy that even the scammers are to lazy to take my money. Unbelievably!!!
Think I will stick to market place ! It’s like an old man’s cough in the classifieds ads here ( dry and full of dust) can you tell I’m frustrated! 😩

I've successfully bought a number of things from the Samba Classified over the last 5 years. Responses can take a few days or even a week as many people don't log into The Samba everyday, some only once a week or even fewer times during the summer months. This is the same even for some of the Retailers when they take vacation and don't respond until they return.

There is a Buyer and Seller Feedback thread to check to see what other's experience has been with the said Seller.

Additionally, many members are getting up there in years and may be members in spirit only or not be healthy enough to log in for extended periods or have forgotten their passwords.

I’ve run across a FEW ads where the item has already been sold. Annoying. But that’s the fault of the seller. Maybe they’re avoiding making a contribution to the samba- but just a guess.Sorry but there a lot of “asleep at the wheel” people out there.Overall I’ve had no problems dealing with sellers/buyers. I consider myself lucky to have the classified section available.

I guess it's phone calls because I looked at who you emailed through the site and you've only emailed 2 people this year - 1 in January and 1 in February.

Phone calls are weird these days, I swear people prefer or even expect a text instead these days.

I'm fine with a text if I list a phone # but:
I consider a phone call to be a more serious buyer but maybe that's old man stuff. TheSamba.com :: Off Topic - View topic (53)

answer phone calls

I NEVER answer the phone unless it's someone I know.
I even have my ringer on silent.
I think it's normal for a lot of people now?
90% of the time it's spam or a recording anyway

It's true that people, usually with cars, are often lazy about removing ads if the car has sold.
They will also not return emails/calls/etc. if it's sold, which is frustrating.

I think the point he is trying to make, is if you have things for sale, then you should be checking in on a regular basis. It's not a perfect world, but if you are taking on the job of selling items, then be a salesperson in addition to your everyday life. Be responsible. If you are on vacation, make a note somewhere. This coming from a business owner. Customer relations is key.

Yes, people should be professional, be kind, be prompt... but many are not.

Try riding a bicycle on Long Island and you can't get a few miles without someone cutting you off in a 4000 pound weapon.

BTW, ads do get deleted if not updated by the user after a few weeks.

I think some are getting rid of their final parts and don’t live on the samba.

To be more specific, it's 90 days.

Unfortunately some people just let an ad run until it expires, even though it sold.

It's in their email but yes, some people don't check their email very often.

I think a lot of people "time warp" these days with everything being instant.
They think someone hasn't replied to them in days when it's been under 24 hours.

I've had people complain to me that a seller hasn't sent them a tracking # or shipped a part... on stuff they bought THAT DAY.

I've been selling VW parts at swap meets for 40 years, as well as 20 years on eBay. You won't find me on eBay anymore.

FB Marketplace is a tool. It's a tool I use. Unfortunately Marketplace is infested with tools. TheSamba.com :: Off Topic - View topic (136)

Yes I know I myself come off as a tool some of the time.

Centuries ago gentlemen and women figured out that it was easy to create misunderstandings using the written word. It then takes thousands of written words to un- do what has already been done. That's if it can be undone.

These days people value manners as much as they value spelling.

I used to wonder why many older VW enthusiasts were so grumpy. I think I know, now. Still... I try to suck up enough freude to keep my Kraft durch freude lubricated.

Here's a happy little NYC band for your entertainment. They're a lot older than when I saw them at CBGB.

NSFW lyrics are mostly unintelligible.

I have never sold on theFacebook or eBay, but it looks like I've had something in the range of 300 Samba transactions with no problems. Oh sure, there is the occasional "I'll take it" and after I calculate shipping and give them my PayPal address, that "buyer" is never heard from again. But, by and large, theSamba has
worked well for me. Every transaction has been handled via Email (which I check daily, even when out of town)

Some vendost call them "SambaFlakes".

I call them Samba Frogs. TheSamba and eBay have similar bayous and frog ponds. If you're an aficionado of frogs and a student of frog behavior you know if you creep up quietly on the swamp you may see multiple sets of frog eyes pokin' outta the water. Or maybe eyes and an entire frog nose. But... get a little too close and frogs submerge with barely a ripple.

Get too close to a deal they submerge without a ripple.

So that's Samba Frogs.

I can't say I have massive cred selling stuff here. I'm here to buy even though I have a mountain of VW parts.

My experience online is asynchronous with my personality. I'm cheerful and outgoing. Gregarious, even.

The Facebook crowd seems to be cagey and even paranoid.
