  • Preheat Well: Ensure your waffle iron is fully preheated for that crave-worthy golden crust.
  • Mix Mindfully: Resist the urge to overmix your batter; it’s okay to leave a few lumps.
  • Oil It Up: A quick swipe of oil on the iron ensures your waffle slides right off.
  • Steam is Key: Wait for the steam to stop rising from the waffle maker for a waffle that’s cooked but still moist.

Serving Suggestions

Indulging in a waffle shouldn’t just stop at the fluffy, golden disk itself. It’s all about the toppings and pairings that make the waffle a star dish. Here are some mouthwatering ideas to take your waffle from “yum” to “can’t get enough.”

  • Caramelized Bananas: Think beyond the basic banana slices. Caramelized bananas, cooked with a sprinkle of brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon, make an incredibly sweet and decadent topping that pairs perfectly with the waffle’s crispy edges.
  • Lemon Curd: For a bright and tangy twist, slather some homemade or store-bought lemon curd on top of your waffle. The zesty lemon flavor is a refreshing contrast to the waffle’s natural sweetness.
  • Fried Apples: Imagine a combination of warm, cinnamon-spiced apples sitting atop your fluffy waffle. Fried apples add an autumnal feel that evokes comfort food nostalgia.
  • Apple Butter: For a taste that’s both sweet and spiced, a dollop of apple butter can do wonders. It adds richness and depth of flavor that simple butter just can’t match.
  • Caramelized Plums: Elevate your waffle game with caramelized plums. These plums, cooked down with just a bit of sugar, offer a tart and sweet complexity that pairs exceptionally well with a crisp, fluffy waffle.
  • Chocolate Lovers: Melt some dark chocolate and pour it over your waffle. Add a dollop of whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings or chocolate chips. It’s like dessert for breakfast but without the guilt.
  • Fresh Berries – Top with some strawberries, blueberries or any type of fresh berries.

Enjoy a golden and crisp, single serve waffle made from basic pantry ingredients – a quick, customizable delicious breakfast just for you.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk (you may use cows milk, almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter , melted
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat waffle iron. Spray with non stick cooking spray or brush with melted butter.

Beat the egg in a bowl until fluffy. Add the milk, vanilla, melted butter, and sugar and mix well.

  • Whisk in the flour, baking powder, and salt and mix gently until combined. Do not overmix.

  • Pour the batter on the iron and close it. Depending on the size of your waffle maker, you might have too much batter. If so, use the little bit of remaining batter to make a second, smaller waffle.

  • Cook the waffle until no more steam comes out. The waffle should be golden brown and crisp.

  • Lift the waffle out of the waffle iron with a pair of tongs and enjoy right away.

FAQs

Is pancake mix the same as waffle mix? ›

Pancake and waffle mixes are not the same thing. Although they both contain eggs, flour, milk, and a raising agent, waffle batter is typically thicker, has more sugar, and more fat, such as oil or melted butter.

What is the difference between a waffle and a bubble waffle? ›

Bubble Waffles Versus Regular Waffles

Bubble waffles look like a web of spheres that resemble mini eggs or bubble wrap, and have a taste that is sweeter and more eggy. Regular waffles have a grid-like appearance with deep wells, and a taste that's subtly sweet.

How much batter do you put in a mini waffle maker? ›

In a mini waffle maker, use about ¼ cup of batter/liquid per waffle.

Can I use pancake mix in a waffle maker? ›

Turning Your Pancake Mix Into a Waffle Mix

You must double the amount of fat you use for the pancake mix. For example, you use 1 tablespoon of butter per cup of dry pancake mixture. Instead, add 2 tablespoons of butter to ensure the crispiness of the waffle. However, we recommend using oil over butter.

Should waffle batter be thick or thin? ›

A thick batter is what allows the waffles to cook enough on the outside that they get golden brown and crispy, but not overdone in the center. For crispy edged waffles with fluffy soft insides, thick batter is key! That's in part why there's both cornstarch and buttermilk in this recipe.

Why do you put oil in waffle mix but not in pancake mix? ›

The additional fat helps turn out waffles that are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside, as opposed to a floppy pancake. The additional sugar leads to more caramelization, so waffles get brown and crispy on the outside.

Are Belgian waffles the same as regular waffles? ›

Belgian waffles are usually thicker than their American counterparts. These Belgian beauties are made with a recipe that includes yeasted batter and crunchy pearl sugar. Belgian waffles have extra-deep pockets—the better for filling with butter, jam, maple syrup, or whipped cream.

What are the fluffy waffles called? ›

Let's get something straight: Belgian waffles are not just any regular old waffle. They're thicker, fluffier and have a nice crisp exterior.

Can you use PAM on a waffle iron? ›

On your second waffle, still use the Pam and put oil in the mixture. I put the dial between 3 and 4 and opened the waffle iron exactly when the light turned green. It came out wonderfully. My third waffle (on another day) I put oil in the mixture and didn't even bother using the Pam.

How long to leave waffle batter in waffle maker? ›

Heat a waffle maker following the manufacturer's instructions, brush with a little of the oil, then ladle in enough batter to just cover the surface. Cook following the manufacturer's instructions (usually 5-6 mins) until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.

Is it better to use milk or water in waffle mix? ›

While water does nothing to improve your waffles' flavor, using equal parts water for the milk your waffle recipe calls for can result in slightly crispier waffle edges and a lighter crumb texture.

What else can I put in a waffle maker? ›

9 Unexpected Foods You Can Cook on a Waffle Iron
  • Falafel. Typically deep-fried, this chickpea or fava bean–based Middle Eastern staple gets much crispier and with much less fat when cooked on a waffle iron. ...
  • Fried rice. ...
  • Pizza. ...
  • Crab cakes. ...
  • Omelets. ...

Can you just add water to Bisquick waffle mix? ›

About This Item
  1. WHOLE GRAIN: Each serving has 12g of whole grain; 48g recommended daily.
  2. QUICK AND EASY: Simply add water and pour onto griddle as part of a meal or snack within minutes.

Is pancake and waffle mix the same as biscuit mix? ›

While pancake mix and Bisquick share many ingredients, the two are not the same. The main difference is that the pancake mix is sweeter. Most pancake mixes can be used in place of Bisquick and vice versa in sweet recipes. Compare your pancake mix with Bisquick's ingredient list before swapping.

Do pancakes and waffles taste the same? ›

Both traditional is mildly sweet and a little bready, although waffles are more so on both counts. Waffles generally have more butter and sugar in the batter and become more caramelized while cooking, so they savor a little richer. On the other hand, pancakes are softer and easier to eat.

Can Krusteaz Belgian waffle mix be used for pancakes? ›

Yes you very well can! I have Krusteaz Waffle Mix and instead of the box directions I just mixed it with water and they came out great!

Does Aunt Jemima have waffle mix? ›

Treat your family to the irresistible taste of Belgian waffles with Aunt Jemima® Belgian Waffle Mix! Our easy-to-prepare mix contains no artificial coloring or flavors and makes waffles that are delightfully crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
